PIT

“A physician is obligated to consider more than a diseased organ, more even than the whole man - he must view the man in his world.”

Harvey Cuching, M.D.,
Father of Neurosurgery, Pulitzer Prize Winner

“Vitality and beauty are gifts of Nature for those who live according to its laws.”

Leonardo da Vinci

“It’s supposed to be a secret, but I’ll tell you anyway. We doctors do nothing. We only help and encourage the doctor within.”

Albert Schweitzer, M.D.

Perineural injection therapy

PIT calms down irritated superficial nerves (neurogenic inflammation) and helps to extinguish neurogenic pain ie aching, burning, tingling, or sharp pain.

Developed by Dr. John Lyftogt in New Zealand, while working on retired professional athletes suffering from chronic recurrent pain syndromes, this methodology involves injecting dextrose or mannitol in small concentrations (5%) subcutaneously in the affected areas.

How does it work?

Acute injury leads to inflammation. When these inflammatory mediating agents surround nerves, they become hyper sensitized and chronically irritated.

Hypersensitivity of these particular nerve fibers called the C nerve fibers causes chronic pain as well as aches, burns, tingling, etc.

A pain cycle ensues due to the production of damaging proteins, even after the initial injury heals. PIT stops this cycle and helps to restore proper balance in communication between these nerves and the brain.
